Library activities

During class time and lunchtime, there will be book games and activities. Join in!


Favourite book poster competition

Create a poster showing the title, the author, an illustration and 3 keywords that describe the book. Template available here. Each valid poster earns one mark. The winning poster earns 3 marks; the runner-up earns 2 marks.


Whanau photo competition

Students will take pictures of people reading. Each whanau is invited to select the best of their students’ photo in each of these categories:

> Best  photo > Most interesting location > Most people reading

There must be no harm done to the participants nor the books (or the photo will be disqualified!). The photos may be published so people featured must agree to their image being used online. Each photo earns a mark. The winning photo in each category earns 3 marks; the runner-up in each category earns 2 marks.


Please bring posters to the library and email photos to library@mtaspiring.school.nz by 4pm 30th June 2017. Make sure you put your House on each entry. Marks will be tallied and House Points will be announced the following week.

Book exchange
Renew your book shelves for FREE!
• Bring your own books in good condition to the library to collect tokens
• Come to the library from the 22nd August to spend your tokens on other books.

Poster competition
• Design a poster promoting your favourite book (must include Title, Author, an illustration -can be the book cover- and 3 keywords that describe the book. Don’t forget to write your name and whanau at the back)
• Bring your creation to the library by Monday 5th September
Prizes: Book vouchers for 3 best posters and House points

 Whanau quiz
On Monday 5th September in whanau, fill in the quiz given to your whanau teacher
and return the same day.
Prizes: Chocolates for the winning whanau and House points.

Winners and house competition results will be announced in assembly on Wednesday 7th September

Congratulation to Evie Simonsohn for the beautiful drawing of a shooner to illustrate her favourite book “Bloody Jack”, by L.A. Meyer. This book is unfortunately not in the library and is now out of print!..

Second !

Congratulation to Caleb Eason for his effective illustration of the Chaos Walking trilogy, by Patrick Ness, Winner of Booktrust Teenage Prize 2008. — Shortlisted for Carnegie Medal 2009. — Shortlisted for Guardian Children’s Fiction Award 2008. The background has been made by writing words in mirror on the back of the paper. Quite smart!

Favourite book poster competition

Because peer recommendations is one of the best way to encourage reading, the library is organising a poster competition again this year. Favourite book posters will be displayed in the library to help you find your next read.

Design a poster promoting your favourite book or books on your own paper or on a template from the library or here: Favourite Book poster or Favourite Books poster.

Favourite_books

Posters must include:

  • The title of the book
  • The author name
  • Genres and/or keywords
  • Who the book is recommended to (Boys, Girls or both, Age…)
  • An illustration (could be a photocopy of the book cover)
  • Your name and whanau

Bring back your creation to the library by the 28st August.

All eligible posters will earn points for your house… and a lolly!
The authors of the 3 nicest posters will win a book voucher.

How to participate

  • Create a poster promoting your favourite book  that includes : Title, author, illustration, genre/s, age and gender recommendations  + your name and whanau at the back. Use the template on the right if you wish or design your own, showing all the required information.
  • Return to the library by Monday 18th August 4pm

 

 

Supporting our local libraries

Town library
Following the review of the local public libraries,  the Wanaka Public Libraries Association (WPLA) is actively engaging the community, including of course YOU, MAC students.

How can you help?

Participate in the survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/WPLASurvey to give ideas of what you would like your library to offer and be in the draw to win a membership card and a $50 New World voucher.

You are also invited to create a logo for the library association by the 30th August to win a $25 Paper Plus voucher. You can drop your design at the college library, college office or the town library.

Lastly, the Association is seeking Youth representatives. Ask MAC library office for a form and/or more information.
